The displacement of humans by corporations
The end of the world as we know it
"It has been thought that government is a compact between those who govern and those who are governed; but this cannot be true, because it is putting the effect before the cause; for as man must have existed before governments existed, there necessarily was a time when governments did not exist, and consequently there could originally exist no governors to form such a compact with. The fact therefore must be, that the individuals themselves, each in his own personal and sovereign right, entered into a compact with each other to produce a government: and this is the only mode in which governments have a right to arise, and the only principle on which they have a right to exist."
"The New Order's corporate structure is a fragile edifice built on a lack of democracy, a lack of personal identity and responsibility, lies, slide, inertia and smug inaction in a world of ever increasing complexity in the interaction between Man's enormous population weight and the biosphere."
Before moving forward to the present double-bind that the American people, and by embedded extension all humanity are immersed, it is vital to open ourselves to conceptual freedom and rational skepticism. This is not possible by discounting hypotheses, however out of bounds they may at first appear. Things that are patently counter-intuitive become theoretically plausible given more information and/or an intuitive shift. Theories can be tested.
Fear prevents honest inquiry, and the U.S.A. is now a shadow culture whose original foundation of fearless egalitarianism has been replaced by dread. Individuals concerned about personal and family safety, communities intimidated into compliance with inane state and federal legislation, a devastatingly high unemployment rate artificially deflated by the highest per capita incarceration rate in the world, and an insideous institutionalized poverty, all point to the slow cremation of hope and mass internalization of an ashen grey banality.
Genius then comes in the form of fantasy, and America is fantasyland in spades. Rather than finding meaning in the pursuit of truth, a happy endeavor if sometimes distressing, the weight of Culture is directed to illusion and finds a comforting yet temporary zone of distracted attention and false fulfillment.
If there has ever been a time for rigorous attention to reality it is now. Attention is not at essence projective except in the formulation of the question. Skeptical receptivity is the nature of intelligence, and this is the attitude I wish to bring to understanding the beginning of the end of the American Dream. What actually happened September 11th, 2001?
Ghost riders in the sky - the alternative scenario presents a theory that could be proven or refuted quite readily were a scientific (don't forget Occam's Razor) and publically transparent investigation to be allowed. Motive(s) aside, the Bush Administration willfully disallowed and obfuscated any such inquiry; an act of criminal negligence and a deliberate obstruction of justice.
It's easy to bandy about such often ill-defined terms as fascism, totalitarianism, etc. How about a more exhaustive list: Forms of Government. Bonus points for recognizing a Plutocracy.
"The simplest possible scheme for hijacking a modern commercial jetliner involves two elements: a) two small canisters of lethal gas hidden in the aircraft's ventilation ducts and triggered either by a timer or by radio signal; and b) a small information implant (three numbers) in the flight control system with a means to trigger it."
Just to give the Bushite faux-Christians a run for their cognitive money and spiritual hypocracy let's follow along when the Canadian Parliament debates bill C-250 - Is the Bible Hate Literature?
"It has been suggested that every government which has ever existed has been a prime example of kakistocracy, or the rule of the worst, but this list of over 160 different types of leadership suggests that that might be a bit too simplistic."
Pitting a dictatorial moron against a deceased genius may seem unfair. The former is incapable of sustained rational discourse and the latter has said all he can. The Great Depression. George Bush vs Einstein on economic policy decisively shows the heading of the Shrubian ship of state.
"In truth the problem lies in the fact that this thing is an idol, and no god at all, and thus people are left to spend a long long long time with it, in the hopes that perhaps they might discover this fact."
Lies spinning to fascism - Naomi Klein
"According to the mathematical analysis performed by Albert Einstein of all the Great Depressions which hit the economy over the past couple of centuries, gross income inequality combined with the resulting erosion at the base of the market in a market based economy leads to increasingly severe Great Depressions, with the severity of the depression being in direct correlation to the how extreme the income inequality has become in a society."
Which brings us back to !doh!, and we tremulously sing in the dark. An interview with 9/11 antiwar author Don Paul
"The Bush administration has found its next target for pre-emptive war, but it's not Iran, Syria or North Korea. Not yet anyway."
"In my view, a secret team within the U.S. government primarily carried out the 9/11 attacks. The attacks could not have happened without the participation of such a team."
Thanks to all for the concern and well wishes as I recovered ever so slowly from this nasty bout of dis-ease. As I regain my faculties I will approach abuddhas with renewed vigor. The forthcoming U.S. election is of unprecedented importance not only for your country but perhaps our species very survival. Now is the time for concerted and tireless effort; do not try. Do.
Surviving the Time Bombs is a review from The Foresight Institute of Our Molecular Future: How Nanotechnology, Robotics, Genetics, and Artificial Intelligence Will Transform Our World, by Douglas Mulhall; a book every legislator should read.
Life and Death Magazine - The Magazine for the Elimination of All Truth - deigns to release The Definitive Guide To Life, and immesurably add to con-fusion.
"The evidence suggests that if we continue to rely on existing ideas of 'living in harmony with nature' we may be thrown backwards centuries when disaster strikes. ... A war is going on between environmentalism and 'technologism.' This war may be distracting us from the true environmental challenge. It's becoming clear that the more we learn about nature's extremes, the more we see that forestalling our perilous journey to a molecular age may relegate us to nature's dustbin."
"By far the greatest thing about this particular guide is its brevity, allowing the reader quick and easy access to its treasures without having to wade through unnecessary padding. All you ever wanted to know about life is now right at your finger tips!"
The Reith Lectures (BBC) '03 restore rational inquiry, and at least temporarily releases me from the rationalized chaos of inane projection. Neuroscience - the New Philosophy
An indispensible resource for those involved in independant alter-journalism is FAIR's Media Activist Kit. Our only hope for deposing the fascist cabal is rigorous attention to, and deconstruction of, the ways and means used to shape opinion and direct behavior. Re-read Propaganda Techniques for refreshed in-sight.
"Now I have no clue what the solution to the problem of self is, what the shift in perspective might be. If I did I would dash off a paper to Nature today, and overnight I'd be the most famous scientist alive. But just for fun let me have a crack at it, at what the solution might look like."
The Specious Present : A Neurophenomenology of Time Consciousness
"We hope that this packet will help you fight unfair coverage of your issues and communities, and win greater access in media for independent voices."
"Three ingredients have turned out to play an equally important role: (1) the neuro-biological basis, (2) the formal descriptive tools mostly derived from non-linear dynamics, and (3) the nature of lived temporal experience studied under reduction. What needs to be examined carefully is the way in which these three ingredients are braided together in a constitutive manner."
Unaccustomed as I am to pubic wreaking, let me begin by asking how a country led by the Bush, a Col(i)on, and a Dick! can think itself a leader in anything but absurd tr(gl)ansexual innuendo. All hail, Chief Hustler.
I have literally been away for the past few days. Pee-new-moan-ia - partially my own fault for getting run down, of course the fault of bacteria, certainly exacerbated by expressive inability, but sublimely if remotely cared for by Dear C. Thus my continued hope despite depths of depairing depression (and insatiable alliterative drive). Things may be a bit slow for a few days yet - and I may be grumpy. Cool, I can rant.
There is a buzz on my land line and regular visits to this site by government agencies of dubious origin. D'ya thimk that The Communications Security Establishment - Canada's Signals Intelligence Agency is watching and listening? Nah, couldn'a be.... pee-new-moan-ia induces par-annoy-ya.
Ten Spy-Busting Secrets
"Unlike CSIS, which has the SIRC (Security Intelligence Review), CSE has never had any form of independent oversight organization to ensure that its invasive powers are not abused."
Worried yet? Nah, me neither. Does that imply "yeah, me too"? Uncertainty is a principle. Certainty is an ideal, a dream, a vision, an implication. Who can ya trust when trust is defined by people of certain values? Who can I value when trust is implied yet uncertain?

Safety is a matter of idea, projection, and actual threat. The safety of North America has never been in question except for ideas (want to buy a bridge?) projected by those facing real threats - ie: the one percent that seem to be consumed with the idea that their projection of perceived threat can be bought and imbued by the mass of our consumptive media. For the rest of us life has too much depth, richness, hypocrisy, or any number of fully dimensional facets to be enumerated, collated, disseminated, espoused, formulated, or in any way brought down; except by a conscious psy-optical effort with purpose. Environment is context.
The rules must apply such that intelligence trumps dogmatism; even if flush. Were this not so this planetship would be called Ant, or Roach or, most disconcertingly, Goo.
Understanding intelligence, which in this context equates to consciousness in its optimal form, is a domain well mapped by William H. Calvin. How Brains Think may send you into neural feedback loops.
Terminating the Bush Juggernaut
"Any explanation of intelligence also ought to give us some insight into other paths to intelligence than the ones followed by life on Earth: it ought, in short, to have implications for artificial intelligence (AI), for augmenting animal and human intelligence, and perhaps for finding signals from exotic intelligences. Not much can yet be said on the "intelligence elsewhere" subject, but let me suggest an ethological perspective that may also help us think about AI and augmented intelligence."
"The Bush juggernaut presents a clear and present danger to the people of the world and even to the health of our planet. But it is far from the world's only problem. This piece seeks strategies to terminate the Bush juggernaut that don't just restore the status quo but instead open the way for further progress toward global peace and justice."
I am totally astonished and joyfully befuddled to have found Country Joe's Place. I won't be goin' fishin' today!

Uncle Sam's in a mess again
Got himself in a terrible jam
With a crazy Muslim named Saddam
So put down your bibles pick up your guns
We're gonna have a whole lot of FUN
And it's 1 2 3 what are we fighting for
Don't ask me I don't give a damn
I just know we gotta kill Saddam
And its 5 6 7 open up the pearly gates
Aint no time to wonder why
Big oil is startin to cry"
Nick Bostrom verifies what we all know to be true.
Cars in the next lane really do go faster
"On matters of fact or morality, honest rational truth-seekers cannot agree to disagree. Even if highly computationally constrained, they should not be able to anticipate the direction of others' opinions relative to their own. Yet virtually no pair of humans is like this. Thus virtually no humans are truth-seekers, and since most humans think they are truth-seekers, they are self-deceived."
Survey five chapters of Dr. Bostrom's tome Anthropic Bias: Observation Selection Effects in Science and Philosophy, which are available for the pdf-enabled and attention piqued.
"An important idea in the theory of observation selection effects is that observers should reason as if they were a random sample from the set of all observers. This means that when making observations of the speed of cars in the next lane, it is important to consider yourself as a random observer, and think about what implications this has on your observation."
I have more than a suspicion that part of humanity's success in the intelligence race was due to experimentation with the entheogens. The Quest for Pharmacological Immortality is the logical endpoint of this research.
"This book explores how to reason when you suspect that your evidence is biased by observation selection effects. An explanation of what observation selection effects are has to await chapter 1. Suffice it to say here that the topic is intellectually fun, difficult, and important. We will be discussing many interesting applications: philosophical thought experiments and paradoxes aside, we will use our results to address several juicy bits of contemporary science: cosmology (how many universes are there?), evolution theory (how improbable was the evolution of intelligent life on our planet?), the problem of time's arrow (can it be given a thermodynamic explanation?), game theoretic problems with imperfect recall (how to model them?), traffic analysis (why is the "next lane" faster?) and a lot more - the sort of stuff that intellectually active people like to think about…"
"It is entirely plausible that within decades - not centuries or millennia - pharmacological science will have made the very concept of getting old obsolete."
Taking the Temperature of Cosmos and Culture is a review by Peter Salamon of A Matter of Degrees: What Temperature Reveals About the Past and Future of Our Species, Planet, and Universe, by Gino Segrč.
"Given that the book is a popularization, Segrč succeeds remarkably well in pointing to open questions related to temperature."
Jack Dreyfus and the Story of a Remarkable Medicine could be an epiphany if even partially true. The Broad Range of Clinical Use of Phenytoin suggests in my mind that pharmaceutical companies have had a vested interest in suppressing research and publication in this important area.
"Phenytoin has been shown to have a calming effect on the overactive brain. Symptoms of this condition are preoccupation, multiple thinking, and flashes and fragments of thoughts coming and going. PHT reduces this uncontrolled activity enabling more normal thinking processes to be restored. This effect is usually achieved within an hour, without sedation.
Problems of the nervous system are frequent causes of drug and alcohol addiction. For this reason PHT's use as a preventive should be considered. In addition to its regulatory effect on the nervous system it has the advantage of being nonaddictive."
Well, well...a spilled drink resulting in returning to a "k"-less keyboard, and too much by far of springish neighborliness (Leary's aphorism read as "drop in, tune up, and jam"). For some reason this has caused me crankiness due to cleanlinesslessness - ya can't "make house" when friends are "in house"; but the "house" was tunefully homey.
Being well endowed with k renders me redolent with pent-up r, as in rage; not only with the fascistic tide of the supposed bastion of capital d democracy but also with the complicit yet conveniently ignored implication of my Dear Canada in U.S. America's "best D is a a good O".
How Uranium from Great Bear Lake Ended Up in A-Bombs
